TOPIC: WORLDLY PLEASURE AND PRESSURE

The Bible tells us not to love the world (I John 2:15). Here, “world” means the world system, the value system of undegenerated humans—the attitudes, desires, loves, cares, and priorities of sinful ﬂesh. The world is a system controlled by satan, who operates through cultures that have little regard for God.

Christians must live in their culture, but they dare not take their lead from it. The world system in which we live is the enemy’s territory. It is not neutral. Worldliness is anything that makes sin look attractive and righteousness look silly. We are worldly whenever we live and love and choose on the same basis as people who don’t love God.

A Christian striving for power in a church or exploding at his wife at home can be as worldly as a person guzzling drinks at a bar. We are in a season where many people exist just for ﬂeshly pleasure; the ﬂesh has become the god of many people. The devil has given many people abundance of ﬂesh-satisfying agenda.

We see the homosexuals, lesbians and people spending hours on internet games, video games, Facebook, twitter, YouTube etc. Most young ladies are prostituting not necessarily because they love living as prostitutes but because they want to look ‘beautiful’ like others – wear ﬂashy and expensive dresses and gold jewelleries, drive the latest cars, and move about with all forms of vanities.

In many places, the New Testament regards the life of a Christian as a life lived in tension. On the one hand, all true believers have had their lives renewed by the Holy Spirit. We saw how John speaks of this reality by reminding us that all Christians know God, have had their sins forgiven, and have overcome the evil one (1 John 2:12–14).

Though this new life gives us the ability to resist sin, the tension of the Christian life resides in the fact that the presence of sin has not yet been eliminated completely. We have the ability to resist temptation, but at the same time we will not do so perfectly. God has granted us a role to play in our perseverance and so we need to be warned against falling into sin.

It is important to note that when John speaks of the world here, he is not referring to nature or to human beings. Rather, he is speaking of the world system that sets itself up in opposition to the things of God. Note that the world in today’s devotional should be understood as everything connected with this present life, apart from the kingdom of God and the hope of eternal life.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. Lord, I receive the grace to receive and obey Your law and precept, in the name of Jesus

2. Lo r d , d e l i v e r me fr om t h e temptation of compromising Your divine instructions, in the name of Jesus

3. Lord, give me the grace to treasure your word above every other thing in life, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. LORD, I make demands on your grace to be clearly different from the world, in the name of Jesus

5. I receive the grace to stand for Christ Jesus in character, in the name of Jesus.

6. Help me, LORD, Let not worldliness prevail over my life, in the name of Jesus

7. LORD, do not allow worldly pleasure and pressure to have dominion over me, in the name Jesus.

TOPIC: INTEGRITY AS MARK OF LEADERSHIP

Today’s devotional for meditation is very important for those who wish to leave a lasting legacy on earth in their walk with God. A leader is one who rules, guides and inspires people in a particular way. Leadership is a personality trait ingrained in someone that makes them gain conﬁdence, trust and obedience from others.

This trait enables a person to command respect that will make others to submit to their leadership. There are many qualities attached to leadership but integrity stands out. What is integrity? From the Latin derivative, ‘integer’, it means ‘untouched’, ‘intact’, ‘entire’. A leader with integrity is not divided. There is no duplicity of intentions. He does not pretend and is no hypocrisy.

He has a single heart, mind and will to lead correctly. He is responsible, truthful, visionary, accountable, ﬁrm in purpose, understanding, conﬁdent, communicates well his vision, listens, appreciates others and is attentive to detail, etc. As Christians, one quality of integrity that stands out is the fear of God.

Without the fear of God, no man can lead with integrity! Without the fear of God, all other qualities of integrity are shaded. This is why and where Joseph stands apart from all other biblical proﬁles in integrity, as far as leadership is concerned.

Joseph feared God and obeyed Him. Joseph was made a leader in a foreign land. He was harassingly tempted to sin.

He did not. His reason for not committing sin was because he had a single heart, mind and will to please God.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. O Lord, teach me to walk in Your way of righteousness always, in the name of Jesus.

2. Fire of God, purge mediocrity from my blood, in the name of Jesus.

3. O Lord, fill my heart with the desire to love You in my decisions, in the name of Jesus.

4. Fear of God, overshadow me, in the name of Jesus.

5. My Father, give me the heart of Joseph to see You first in all my decisions, in the name of Jesus.

TOPIC: SPIRITUAL RETREAT (II)

“For this saith the Lord God, the Holy one of Israel, in returning and rest shall ye be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength and ye would not.”

Motivational Quote: Where can a man find a quieter or more untroubled retreat than in his soul?

Prophetic Word: The God that encountered Abraham, Isaac and Israel shall locate you, in the name of Jesus.

The secret of strength lies in quietness. The state of quietness is greatly praised in the Bible. Noise does not indicate strength. It has been well said that an empty barrel makes the loudest nose. Quiet forces are the most powerful. The force of light is quiet. The force of gravitation is also quiet. If we must learn to be strong, we must learn quietness.

The reason for our shallowness is lack of quiet time. Solitude is being lonely by choice. There is power in being lonely with God. The greatest men who have made impact are the people who have been quiet. In Genesis 32:24, the Bible says that Jacob was left alone. Being alone with God has a therapeutic, renewing, reenergising and strengthening power.

It is when you separate yourself to pray that He is able to mould you to what He can use. Another name for being alone with God is retreat. It is a time God can use to transform you to another man. In a retreat, you will gain strength, get refreshed and renewed. Many don’t like to go on retreat. Those that were quiet heard from God. Noah was a lonely man.

Abraham was a lonely man. Jacob was in a mess when he was alone with God. He was remoulded. Enoch walked with God successfully because he knew how to be alone with God and to commune with him. Moses spent quality time with God in fasting and praying and was an outstanding prophet. Spending time with God can help us hear our inner-most voice.

Retreat is staying away from people, computers, phones, newspapers, games, music, tablets etc. Retreat may be getting to work earlier than everybody and placing your head on the locker and having your quiet time. It may be going to a peaceful corner during break in your place of work. The question is Have you ever heard the Lord’s still small voice?

When last were you quiet for 30 minutes? Are you able to just sit down without the noise of the radio, television or internet and meditate?

Beloved, God comes to us in our quiet moments to speak to us and teach us. You need to have regular retreats if you want to be a champion for God in this generation.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. Any ancient battle in my life, die, in the name of Jesus.

2. Every battle assigned to waste my time and years, die, in the name of Jesus.

3. Every power assigned to kill my star, die, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. Opportunity wasters, your time is up, die, in the name of Jesus.

5. O God, arise and teach me to be quiet, in the name of Jesus.

6. O God, arise and teach me to be teachable, in the name of Jesus.

7. Begin to thank God for a new beginning

TOPIC: SPIRITUAL RETREAT (I)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Matthew 20, Matthew 21

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Kings 17:1-6; 1 Kings 18:1-3; 1 Kings 18:17-39

“And he said unto them, come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while for there are many coming and going and they had to leisure so much as to eat.”

Motivational Quote: There is nothing intelligent about not standing up for yourself. Within you, there is stillness and a sanctuary you can retreat. At anytime, be yourself.

Prophetic Word: The Almighty God will repair your broken altars, in the name of Jesus.

Spiritual retreat can be different from each individual, but the common thing or practice about retreat is prayer petition or intercession as the case may be. Many of us are familiar with rest and relaxation, but spiritual retreat can be said to be a time to regroup, re-access and re-focus on things yet to come.

It is also an expected time for quiet reﬂection like reading the Scripture, time of group sharing by encouraging, consoling and inspiring others. In our text today, Elijah was one of the ﬁrst in a long time of important prophets God sent to Israel and Judah. God told him to hide himself by the brook Cherith and He would send ravens to feed him there. God hid him in a lonely and quiet place to commune with Him.

In that place he was able to focus on God, and the messages God was giving him at the time was accurate without mixing words. When he came out, the power of God ﬁlled him to the brim, that he could face Ahab the king, Jezebel, his wife, and the prophets of Baal. Anytime you go for a quiet reﬂection in the presence of God, you come out refreshed, powerful and fulﬁlled.

This is what prophet Elijah enjoyed. He was able to disgrace the prophets of Baal by calling down the ﬁre of God. All the Baal prophets were killed. Prophet Elijah caused revival in the land of Israel. Our Lord Jesus Christ was just completing a forty-day fast and time alone with God.

The devil came to temp Him but He was able to defeat satan because the power of God was with Him. If there is no time of retreat in your life, forget about revival. The result of personal, group or corporate retreat is revival, whether personal revival, group or corporate revival. The problem we have is procrastination. That is, I will do it tomorrow, and tomorrow will never come.

Do it today and the power of revival will enter into your life, in Jesus’ name. When you tarry in the Lord’s presence, as Elijah did, your life will never be the same again.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. I arrest every spiritual serpent waging war on my spirit man, in the name of Jesus.

2. I shut off every internal voice speaking against my spirit man, in the name of Jesus.

3. O Lord, empower me to be a fire brand man, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

1. My Eagle, receive fire, in the name of Jesus.

2. O Lord, teach me how to pray and get result, in the name of Jesus.

3. I shall not be a fire quencher, in the name of Jesus.

4. O Lord, break me and remould me, in the name of Jesus

TOPIC: MORE THAN GOLD OR SILVER (II)

The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

Prophetic Word: I decree that mammon shall not replace the word of God in your life, in the name of Jesus.

The major reason for searching the Scriptures is that they testify of Christ (John 5:39). A sinner has but one want—a Saviour. A believer has but one desire—to know and win Christ (Phil. 3:8-10). With a “single eye,” therefore, intent upon one point, he studies this blessed book. With unveiled face he beholds in this glass the glory of the Lord (2 Cor. 3:18).

The truth is that no arithmetic can compute the price of that, which is now unspeakably better to him than the treasures of the earth. If you have a choice between the word of God and gold, choose the word of God. If you have a choice between the word of God and MUCH gold, choose the Word of God. If you have choice between the word of God and much FINE gold, choose the word of God.

The point is plain. The beneﬁts of knowing and doing the word of God are greater than all that money can buy. The word of God is full of these precious pearls. The richest people are not those who have the best and the largest possession or earthly treasure but those who have the word dwelling richly in their hearts (Col. 3:16).

Those who are rich in this heavenly treasure are men and women of substance indeed. The word of God gives wisdom to those who read and obey it. Psalm 19:7b afﬁrms that the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. And Psalm 19:8b says that the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. A wise person’s life conforms to the commandments of God.

The word of God is the best source of the deepest and lasting joy. It rejoices the heart and has an effect in our lives that compares to eating the most enjoyable thing David could think of—fresh honey straight from the comb. In a nutshell, knowing God through Christ is priority number one in the life of the Christian. As you get to know God and store his word in your heart, the Word of God will become personally operative in your life.

Today as you delight in the word of the Lord and meditate therein day and night, wisdom and joy shall increase in your life daily.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. Lord, quicken me by Your word, in the name of Jesus.

2. Lord, help me to daily walk in Your law, in the name of Jesus.

3. Lord, give me wisdom and joy in Your word, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. Lord, let me observe to do Your word with my whole heart, in the name of Jesus.

5. Lord, teach me the way of Your statutes, in the name of Jesus

6. Lord, establish Your word in my heart, in the name of Jesus.
